1 The Orphan Master’s son won the Pulitzer for fiction. The Orphan Master's Son is a 2012 novel by American author Adam Johnson. It deals with intertwined themes of propaganda, identity and state power in North Korea.




2. India  origin Economist Raj Chetty won John Bates Clark Medal for 2013. Raj Chetty, an economist at Harvard University, has won the 2013 John Bates Clark Medal, a laurel considered by many economists to be second only to the Nobel Prize.




3. Sujatha Singh, currently ambassador to Germany   was appointed India’s next Foreign secretary on 3rd July 2013. She assumed office on 1 August, 2013 succeeding Ranjan Mathai.





4. Britain’s Chris Froome was crowned champion of the 100th edition of Tour de Frannce  on 22nd July 2013. Christopher Froome (born 20 May 1985) is a Kenyan-born British professional road racing cyclist and winner of the 2013 Tour de France, riding for UCI ProTeam Team Sky. Brought up in Kenya and South Africa, he has ridden since 2008 under a British licence on the basis of his passport and his father and grandparents' country of birth.




5. C.P. Srivastave (Chandrika Prasad Srivastava) who was conferred with the Padma Vibhushan in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan in 1972 has died on 22nd July 2013 in  Italy.





6. L. Brojeshori Devi, the Olympian Judo player passed away at Coimbatore on 22nd July 2013. She was 32 years of age.









7. ILO association and Moon Express would start world’s first mission to south pole of the Moon for installation of a permanent  telescope.



8. The book entitled An Agenda for India’s growth Essays in honour of P Chidambaram, was released in New Delhi on 31st July 2013.






9. Nirupama Sanjeev Vaidyanathan, the former female tennis player from India on 5th August 2013 released her book-The Moonballer. The book was released by Tennis ace Vijay Amritraj in Chennai.




10. Russian Tennis player Maria Sharapova topped the Rorbes list of highest-paid female athletes for the ninth straight year.
